Amphetamines are a type of stimulant drug that acts on the central nervous system, with euphoric effects.  Mild intoxication may produce the effects of a hangover, but severe poisoning can alter the heart rate and lead to death.

Low to moderate doses causes:

  • Euphoria
  • Sleep loss and decreased appetite
  • Apparent improvement of overall fitness
  • Increased breathing rate
  • Dry Mouth
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Rise in blood pressure and body temperature
  • Decreased urination

High or repeated doses produce:

  • Irritability and paranoia
  • Hallucinations and delusions
  • Respiratory arrest
  • Cardiac arrhythmias and heart injuries
  • Inhibition of ejaculation
  • Convulsions, coma and death
