Addiction to gambling is a widespread disease.
The characteristics of pathological gambling are:
- Obsession to gamble and to get money to continue gambling
- Gamble more money or for longer than planned
- The need to increase the amount or frequency of the bet to achieve the desired excitement
- Irritability when unable to gamble
- Repeated losses and frequent return to try to recover losses
- Giving up important social, professional, or recreational activities in order to gamble
- Continued gambling despite the recent inability to pay debts
Problem gambling causes:
- Tension, anxiety, irritability and suicidal ideation
- Constant lies and climate of distrust
- Large debts and impoverishment
- Isolation
- Decreased work performance
- Lost opportunities and promotions
- Insomnia and lack of appetite
