Mescaline is a potent natural hallucinogen that produces physical changes in the speed of reflexes, muscle weakness, lack of coordination in the limbs, tremors, dilated pupils, nausea and vomiting.
One to two hours after ingestion it causes hallucinations with visions of intense color that may include animals, people, images, heaviness or lightness, alteration in time and space, intensified sensory perception, or mystical experiences. Prolonged use may precipitate schizophrenia-like reactions.
